Welcome to Design Your Wild!

Design inspiration and research-backed strategies for transforming yards with native plants

Design Your Wild is dedicated to transforming outdoor spaces into thriving, human-centered landscapes that support biodiversity. Founded by Heather and Zoe Evans, our work is grounded in research and inspired by the principles of Doug Tallamy — prioritizing native plants and ecological practices to create spaces that people truly use and love.

Our journey began with a simple mission: to help people design outdoor spaces that are both functional and ecologically responsible. We believe that great design doesn’t just benefit the environment; it enhances daily life. Our focus isn’t on traditional gardening advice — it’s on crafting spaces that seamlessly blend beauty and function while supporting a healthier ecosystem. Through Design Your Wild, we provide insights and strategies to rethink front yards, shared community spaces, and entire neighborhoods.

Free subscribers get research-backed tips and advice in our newsletter every other Tuesday. But for those ready to dive deeper, paying subscribers unlock exclusive perks, including live virtual workshops, design feedback, and a thriving community of like-minded gardeners.

Join us in redefining what outdoor spaces can be.

Meet Heather and Zoe.

Heather, a master gardener and award-winning designer, brings decades of design expertise, while Zoe, a master naturalist, adds her science-backed approach to landscaping.

We’re a mother-daughter duo passionate about transforming yards into biodiverse, resilient spaces using native plants and thoughtful design. At Design Your Wild, we’re on a mission to help you create outdoor spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful — while supporting wildlife and the environment.

Together, we offer research-based insights and a community to help you create a space you’ll love — while making a positive impact on the planet.

Regular online workshops.

New paying subscribers can join our live online workshops, which we teach about every month or so.

Our foundational workshop is Design Your Yard: Quick & Easy Layouts. This workshop gives you the foundational tools for designing a restorative, human-centered yard that reduces lawn and focuses on what truly brings joy — different from the typical approach to landscape design. You’ll walk away with a plan that balances beauty, function, and ecological impact. Plus, you can retake the workshop as many times as you like!
