In our home, this retired couple, seems to follow your views. The male uses mower, trimmer, blower and an occasional spade. He has pulled weeds off and on as well. The female at our house does all the gardening chores- she is more interested and dare I say knowledgeable.
To that list of salt-tolerant plants that could endure the plow, I would add goldenrod! 19 are native to Maine. If your reader would like to see goldenrod in a more formal garden setting, head to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens now through early fall. They have many of Maine's native varieties including Blue-stemmed goldenrod (Solidago caesia), ‘Solar Cascade’ goldenrod (Solidago shortii), grass-leaved goldenrod (Solidago graminifolia), showy goldenrod (Solidago speciosa), and the ‘Little Lemon’ variety.
Before we had a baby, I (female) would spend most evenings pulling weeds, tending to the garden. My husband would mow the lawn once a week. Since we had the baby, I have let things grow a bit more wild and we pull weeds maybe once a month, and my husband outsourced the lawn care to have more time with the baby. Now we just sit outside most evenings on a blanket as the baby crawls around attempting to eat leaves.

And it sounds like a respectful partnership!
I’m taking a landscape design class offered by our state university extension program. Out of 40 students, 39 are women!
Hmmm, dramatic difference. Wonder what it means? In any case, kudos for taking the course:)

Sounds as if all three of you are enjoying your new roles:)
